Emma Watson
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the
daughter of British parents Jacqueline Luesby (a lawyer) and Chris Watson (a
French mother). When she was five, she was moved to Oxfordshire and went to
Dragon School. Emma realized she wanted to act at the age of six. She was
trained for several years at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. This
part-time theatre school taught her singing, dancing and acting. She was a
stagecoach performer and played the lead in several Stagecoach productions. In
1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) it was the
film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting
agents found Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive
auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants, Daniel
Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been chosen for the roles of the three
leads, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut screen
performance in cinema was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). It
was the top-grossing feature of 2001, breaking records in terms of opening-day
sales and opening weekend takes. The performances of the film and of its three
young stars received praise from critics. The Daily Telegraph, a British
newspaper that is widely published, described Emma's performance as
"admirable." Then, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in
the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an
Feature Film. Emma was one of the most famous actresses after the movie's
success. Emma continued to play the character as Hermione Granger for a total
